Dr. Daniel Olavarría specializes in helping couples disrupt the painful patterns that are holding them back and keeping them stuck, so that they can gain access to deeper connection, intimacy, and fulfillment in their relationship and lives. With over 13 years of clinical experience, Dr. Olavarría earned his master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his doctorate from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where his clinical research focused on intergenerational and historical trauma. He has completed extensive postgraduate training, including in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples and in trauma treatment. In addition to having served as a clinical supervisor at the renowned Ackerman Institute for the Family, he is the Founder and Clinical Director of The City Psychotherapy New York – a multi-state private practice. Dr. Olavarría actively contributes his expertise at learning institutions across the country and in media, including at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and on NPR’s Life Kit and Code Switch podcasts. Dr. Olavarría is licensed in ten states, allowing him to provide remote virtual therapy for couples who are navigating long-distance relationships or bicoastal lifestyles. These states are California, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Vermont.
