From Dennis' first degree in psychology to his studies and career in documentary filmmaking to his degree and career in counselling, the through line has always been strong interest and compassion for the experiences and struggles of others. Starting in 2021, Dennis worked under the direct supervision of a highly experienced health psychologist in group practice for more than four years before going private. Through this tenure, he developed critical knowledge and experience on a broad array of mental health concerns. This included, the relationship between mind and body and how to help clients understand and optimize their wellness in a way that is uniquely tailored to them. Whether it's past traumas, anxiety, perfectionism, depression, low-assertiveness or disconnection from the community, these factors all play a role in how someone experiences illness or pain. These are issues that Dennis has considerable experience working with as a primary concern on their own and when they are directly related to a chronic health concern as well. Some aspects of Dennis' practice that make him stand out are: * His use of hypnosis to address both physical and psychological issues * His use of Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy to address phobias * His commitment to read through any article or workbook the client choses that relates to their concern * Regular review of the most up to date, cutting edge research that relates to client's specific concerns
I have always been a big advocate of jumping into action and finding ways to address problems through concrete, focused strategies. I also honour the important need to foster compassion, validation and understanding as a foundation with my clients before this occurs. I am available to help adults presenting with a broad array of mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, grief, self-esteem, relationships and life purpose. I also have a specialized focus of helping clients with chronic pain, chronic illness and disability. I am honoured to take part in the change process with anyone who is open to doing deep personal work. I am a former athlete who now experiences limited mobility due to chronic illness. This transformation has given me a better understanding of the experiences of others with a wide range of different abilities. It has also provided me with the tools and perspective to better help others who are encountering significant life changes or barriers to wellbeing. I know that there is sometimes a hesitation to seek help due to shame, uncertainty or sometimes procrastination. For some people they have been waiting their whole lives to take the first step to speak with a therapist and open up about their problems. I'm here to make the experience as natural and comfortable as possible. Don't hesitate to reach out!
