About
Dr. Dillon is a NYS licensed psychologist who brings warmth, curiosity, and authenticity to his work. He earned his M.A. in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness from New York University and his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Fordham University. Over the past 15+ years, he has provided therapy in hospitals and college counseling centers across New York City, helping individuals navigate challenges ranging from anxiety and identity development to trauma and relationship concerns. Dr. Dillon takes an integrative and collaborative approach to therapy. He works relationally through a feminist and multiculturally informed lens, creating a space where clients can explore their experiences openly and without judgment. His style is grounded in genuine connection and guided by evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Problem-Solving Therapy (PST), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Central to Dr. Dillon’s work are themes of social justice, advocacy, and belonging. He is especially attuned to how systems of power, culture, and identity shape one’s mental health and sense of self. His expertise in implicit bias, microaggressions, and diversity, equity, and inclusion allows him to hold space for nuanced conversations about race, gender, sexuality, and privilege. Dr. Dillon has published and presented research on the lived experiences of marginalized populations, including people of color, undocumented individuals, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and continues to bring that depth of understanding into every therapeutic relationship he builds.

Message to clients
If you feel frustrated, stuck or unfulfilled in life, you are not alone. Amid a global pandemic, along with the current social and political climate, knowing how to begin healing can be a challenge. As a Black male therapist in NYC, I specialize in working with individuals and couples who at times feel powerless and are often marginalized - including immigrants, people of color, and LGBTQIA+ folx. My clients have often described me as genuine, warm, empathic, supportive, dedicated, and attuned to their needs. While much of what we will do in our work is grounded in the present, we will often explore your past experiences and relationships as a way to deepen our understanding and insights, make connections between your emotions and behaviors, and identify patterns that are counterproductive or harmful, which will ultimately lead you to become a better version of yourself. I have a strength-based approach that is culturally responsive and trauma-informed. Working with me, you’ll find that therapy isn’t a place to “be perfect” or “have it all together.” It’s where you can be genuine and authentic without apology. There’s no need to hide in shame, avoid out of fear, or filter yourself; who you are is fully accepted. Through our work, you'll realize you already have what you need to live happily, build meaningful relationships, and achieve your goals. My role is to help you recognize and use those inner resources to find joy and reach your full potential.
