Eugene “Trey” is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and the founder of Free As Can Bee Therapy. He holds a Master’s in Social Work from Florida State University and has more than a decade of experience in the human services field, including five years as a practicing therapist. His background includes service in the U.S. Peace Corps in Ethiopia, work with survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence, and advocacy for HIV prevention and LGBTQIA+ youth. As a queer-identifying clinician, Trey brings both lived experience and clinical expertise to his work with clients, specializing in anxiety, depression, identity exploration, trauma recovery, non-traditional relationships, and LGBTQIA+ concerns. He works with teens and adults, typically ages 13–50, who are navigating major transitions and searching for a life that feels authentic and aligned with their values. Trey’s therapeutic approach is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). He believes therapy should be a collaborative, affirming space where clients feel safe enough to be honest, challenged enough to grow, and supported enough to thrive. Whether clients are unpacking the past, exploring identity, or building a new path forward, Trey helps them reconnect with what matters most and take actionable steps toward meaningful change.
My passion is working with individuals between 13-50 years old, particularly from the LGBTQ+ community. During this time, we have so many transitions and, if you're like I was, so few ideas of how we are actually supposed to pull them off. Maybe you feel like you're at war with your emotions (and losing), struggling with friends, family, or romance issues, coming to terms with your identity or sexuality, or trying to figure out how to change gears when you finally thought you figured it all out. You might be looking at your friends or family and realizing they don't have a clue either, and wondering who you can talk to. That’s where I come in, I won’t tell you what to do, instead, we’ll uncover what has been working in the past. We’ll fine-tune the strengths you have, align your actions with your values, and reconnect with what really matters. When you act in ways that reflect who you are, change follows. It might sound simple, but I know it’s not—I’ve been the one feeling lost, angry, and afraid. This kind of growth is hard work. The good news? You don’t have to do it alone. I’ll be there with you every step of the way, whether we’re unpacking the past or figuring out your next move.

Eugene "Trey" began as a mentor and quickly became a trusted friend. He is deeply caring, genuinely compassionate, and always willing to lend support. I wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone seeking a thoughtful and empathetic therapist.
I worked with Trey in a high school where we counseled students grades 9-12. He was always able to assess and respond to student need sensitively and effectively, supporting and empowering his clients to deal with the many emotional and practical challenges they faced. Trey's clients felt safe and encouraged to work with him on an ongoing basis, looking forward to next sessions. It is accurate to say that Trey's clients grew through their work with him and that their lives became more their own because of it.
Eugene "Trey" consistently goes above and beyond in his work with clients. He demonstrates a high level of professionalism and a strong commitment to ongoing growth and learning in order to provide the highest quality of care. I wholeheartedly recommend him as a therapist.
